According to Srivathsan Nadadhur: ‘Yuddhalu enduku jarugutayi?’ a young prince Satakarni asks his mother Gautami Balasiri as he awaits his father’s return at the Satavahana palace. ‘Adhikaram kosam’, she says and Satakarni replies ‘Desam ekamaite yuddhalundavu kada’’. Only a capable ruler can do that, she asserts and from thereon Satakarni transforms into a man who thinks about his nation, where there’s peace and unity.

According to Srivathsan Nadadhur: Director Krish Jagarlamudi couldn’t have envisaged a firmer foundation than this to establish Gautamiputra Satakarni’s part in the historical feature. The filmmaker humanises historical characters to ring in contemporary relevance in a dialogue-fest that’s crisply packaged for Balakrishna’s 100th film.

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 100th Movie Gautamiputra Satakarni

Who is Gautamiputra Satakarni ? What are the contributions of the emperors of Satavahana Dynasty to Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India?

Who are Sata Satanana Sattada Sattina Shottai Sanatani Sattina-Sattada Nambi Nambudiri Nambimar Brahmin ?

Gautamiputra Satakarni, who was a Sata Satanana Sattada Sattina Shottai Sanatani Sattina-Sattada Nambi Nambudiri Nambimar Brahmin, ruled much of South India during 2nd Century CE. There are three different dates for his reign of Satavahana Empire in the 2nd Century CE.

The Nashik Prashasti Inscription calls Gautamiputra Satakarni as an Ekabrahmana (which means the Greatest Brahmin, the Noblest Brahmin, the Brahmin who considers all his citizens and their joys and sorrows as the only things that matter to him and his family is all his citizens and their happiness, welfare and growth are his happiness, his welfare and his growth. Ekabrahmana in other contexts also mean Ekangi Brahmin or Ekaki Brahmin or a Brahmin who works for the safety, security, welfare and growth of all his citizens since his family is all the Indian Hindu men, women and children in Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India and their joys and sorrows are his joys and sorrows and he has no selfishness or self interest in the service that he renders to the welfare of all the Indian Hindu men, women and children in Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India).

Gautamiputra Satakarni was born in 78 AD to Sivasvati Satakarni, who was his father and Gautami Balashri Satakarni, who was his mother. He left for Vaikunta, the abode of Sri Vishnu and Sri Lakshmi, leaving his earthly body in 102 AD.

Gautamiputra Satakarni was the greatest warrior emperor of Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India. He was a most fearless warrior who won several major military conquests over other kings during his reign as the emperor of Satavahana Empire in the 2nd Century CE. The Nashik Prashasti inscription of his mother Gautami Balashri Satakarni describes his various military conquests and victories during his reign of Santanana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India.

The Nasik Prashasti Inscription, a eulogy of Gautamiputra Satakarni’s great military exploits, conquests and victories, was found at Pandavleni Caves in Nashik. This inscription refers to the grant of a village for the economic wellbeing and support of the Buddhist monks belonging to the Bhadrayaniya sect.

According to the Nashik Prashasti Inscription, Gautamiputra Satakarni gave a crushing defeat to the Shakas, also known as Western Kshatrapas or Scythians, who were the nomadic tribes from Central Asia; the Pahlavas, also known as Parthians, Persians and Iranians and the Yavanas, also known as the European Greeks who invaded India during the European Greek Alexander’s invasion of India and the European Greeks who invaded India in the 1st Millenium BCE.

The Nashik Prashasti Inscription mentions Gautamiputra Satakarni’s great victories in several wars against a confederacy of enemy kings belonging to other dynasties. The Nashik Prashasti Inscription mentions that the horses of Gautamiputra Satakarni drank waters in the three oceans: (1) the Arabian Sea (2) the Bay of Bengal and (3) the Indian Ocean.

The Nashik Prashasti Inscription calls Gautamiputra Satakarni as Rajadhiraja (the king of kings) whose pronouncements, judgments and orders were always followed and obeyed by all other kings during his reign of Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India. The Nashik Prashasti Inscription also describes Gautamiputra Satakarni as the lord of eight mountains: (1) Vindhyaavat Vindhyas (2) Pariyatra Vindhyas (3) Sahya Western Ghats (4) Krishnagiri or Kanhagiri (5) Malaya Western Ghats (6) Mahendra (7) Chakora and (8) Sreshthagiri or Setagiri.

Gautamiputra Satakarni’s empire or dominance covered Malwa and Saurashtra regions in the North, Krishna River in the South, Konkan region in the West and Vidarba (Berar) region in the East. The Nashik Prashsti lists the following regions which were under the rule of Gautamiputra Satakarni: (1) Asika Region in Godavari River Valley (2) Ashmaka Region in Godavari River Valley (3) Mudhaka or Mulaka Region around Paithan (4) Suraastra or Saurashtra Region (5) Kukura Region (6) Aparanta Region in North Konkan (7) Anupa Region around Mahishmati in Narmada River Valley and (8) Vidarbha or Berar Region and Akara-Avanti Region in Eastern Malwa and Western Malwa.

The Karle Inscription, which records the grant of Karajika Village in Pune District, confirms that the Pune Region was also under the control of Gautamiputra Satakarni during his reign of South India.

The two inscriptions, the Nashik Prashasti Inscription and the Karle Inscription, clearly reveal that Gautamiputra Satakarni’s rule, dominance and hegemony extended over nine regions in Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India. These nine regions were (1) Asika Region in Godavari River Valley (2) Ashmaka Region in Godavari River Valley (3) Mudhaka or Mulaka Region around Paithan (4) Suraastra or Saurashtra Region (5) Kukura Region (6) Aparanta Region in North Konkan (7) Anupa Region around Mahishmati in Narmada River Valley (8) Vidarbha or Berar Region and Akara-Avanti Region in Eastern Malwa and Western Malwa and (9) Pune Region in Maharashtra.

The Nashik Prashasti Inscription describes Gautamiputra Satakarni as a noble emperor whose joys and sorrows were the same joys and sorrows as those of his citizens. It also describes him as a noble soul who loathed destroying life of any human being, including that of his sworn enemies who harmed, hurt and offended him. As such, the Nashik Prashasti Inscription includes Gautamiputra Satakarni as one of the most treasured and most honored sons and heroes of Sanatana Sanatani Satanana Bharat India along with Ayodhya Sri Rama, Keshava, Arjuna, Ambarisha, Bhimasena, Janamejaya, Nabhaga, Nahusha, Sagara and Yayati.

Gautamiputra Satakarni had two sons namely Vashishthiputra Pulumavi and Vashishthiputra Satakarni. His son Vashishthiputra Pulumavi, who succeeded him to the throne of Satavahana Empire.

The emperors of Satavahana Kingdom (Shaatavaahana Kingdom) ruled approximately from 271 BCE to 30 BCE and dominated South India from the 1st century BCE to the 3rd century CE. The two most renowned rulers of Satavahana dynasty were Gautamiputra Satakarni and Vashistaputra Satapulamayi.

The areas that were ruled by Satavahanas at different points of time were Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Northern Karnataka, Eastern and Southern Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Gujarat and Chattisgarh. They had three different capital cities at different points of time and they were Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh, Pratishtana in Maharashtra and Junnar in Maharashtra. Amaravati was also known as Dharanikota.

Satavahanas encouraged Prakrit, Sanskrit and other Indian languages and patronized Buddhism, Brahminism and Brahminical Hinduism. The title of a number of Satavahana emperors was Satakarni (Shaataakarṇi). Satavahana, Salivahana and Shalivahana are considered as one and the same and are just variations of one another. Damodar D. Kosambi, one of the foremost historians, surmises that Satavahana, Satakarni and Shalivahana are Sanskritized versions of the South Indian word Satakani (Shatakani).
