Education Programs Scout Programs Summer Camps
Let your Boy or Girl Scouts spend an exciting and memorable afternoon at the Institute for American Indian Studies. Learn a Native American inspired craft, play traditional Native American games or listen to stories in our indoor replicated longhouse! Our programs are fun, informative and can help you earn your scout badges. Programs can be designed to meet your needs.

INDIANS OF THE WOODLANDS PROGRAM
An IAIS Educator will teach your group about traditional Northeastern Native American lifestyles as well as the interaction between indigenous peoples and their environment.
From East to West Explore the exhibit, From East to West: Across Our Homelands, where Scouts will learn about the enduring presence and cultural traditions of Native American communities throughout North America.
Longhouse Room Experience our indoor Longhouse Classroom where Scouts can handle various items including stone axes, antler rakes and more!
Algonkian Village Step back in time at our outdoor replicated Algonkian village and discover the ways in which dwellings and canoes were built using stone tools.
Nature Trails Enjoy a hike along our nature trails as we highlight various indigenous trees and plants as well as ways in which Native Americans used them in their daily lives.
Hoop & Pole Learn and play games of skill and chance that were enjoyed by the Eastern Woodland Indians such as Hoop & Pole, Hubbub and Predator-Prey.
A short video explaining hunting and the importance of animals to Native culture can also be included in this program.

Have you ever wondered why some trees stay green throughout the winter? Or why Bear's tail is so short? Traditional Native legends explain the mysteries of life as well as entertain. Experience the lessons, wonders and magic of Native American folklore.

If a cancellation is necessary, notification is required a full two weeks in advance, or a $100 cancellation fee will be charged. Cancellations due to severe weather however, will not be charged.
